Today is a day worth celebrating in the history of Guangxi Normal University Press, when we have ushered in the glorious moment - the 35th anniversary of Guangxi Normal University Press. On behalf of all members of the leadership team in Guangxi Normal University Press Group Co., Ltd., I hereby would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the readers and authors who are long concerned with and support Guangxi Normal University Press, the leaders at all levels who are long concerned with and help Guangxi Normal University Press, and the fellow companies, customers and friends who have been going hand in hand with Guangxi Normal University Press for a long time. I would like to extend my sincere greetings to all the staff of Guangxi Normal University Press who are dedicated to its development.

Thirty-five years have passed like a flash. Looking back on the 35-year development course of Guangxi Normal University Press which saw great perseverance in the face of difficulty, a surge of emotions has welled up inside us. Thirty-five years ago, a group of publishers of Guangxi Normal University who were committed to passing down excellent culture got together, driven by their ideal and belief of "publishing good books", founded Guangxi Normal University Press from scratch in Guilin, a small town in the south of our motherland. Since its establishment, Guangxi Normal University Press has taken "publishing good books for the people" as its initial aspiration. In the past 35 years, group after group of publishers of Guangxi Normal University have always concentrated all their efforts on the lofty pursuit of "letting people and books meet”, putting social benefits first while adhering to their initial aspiration.

——To let people and books meet, Guangxi Normal University Press bravely participated in market competition from 1986 to 1998. Being oriented to the readers' needs, adopting a differentiated development strategy, accurately researching and developing new educational books and actively expanding new marketing models, the Press took the lead in joining hands with private corporations to create a distribution network of general agent systems in various provinces, and rose rapidly in the field of publishing of supplementary teaching materials. Since then, it has become one of the famous "six new culture and education presses", thus developing into an influential professional publishing institution in the field of educational publishing.

——To let people and books meet, Guangxi Normal University Press bravely broke through barriers from 1999 to 2008, implementing the cross-regional development strategy, gathering high-quality cultural resources extensively, accumulating momentum for sustainable development, and thus gradually forming a "three-line abreast development" publishing landscape, where education publishing works as the main axis and rare literature and scholarly humanities publishing as the two wings. Five BBT companies emerged, which made the Press one of the "three new social sciences presses" well-known in the industry. Guangxi Normal University Press has developed from a single educational publishing house to a well-known publishing institution across regions and fields, forming a development landscape of "one axis and two wings".

——To let people and books meet, driven by branding and collectivized development, from 2009 to 2016, Guangxi Normal University Press strengthened its foundation, improved its publishing quality and efficiency and comprehensively increased the level of its main business of publishing. Moreover, it strengthened its ability for "self-fission"-type development, promoted the operation of mature teams as corporations, and expanded its landscape to Australia, Britain and the United States through overseas mergers and acquisitions. Thus, by optimizing and upgrading its industrial chain and value chain, the Press has highlighted its leading role in the industry development, and become a representative corporation for the innovation-driven development of China's publishing industry and "going global” of China’s culture.

——To let people and books meet, Guangxi Normal University Press has been taking the path of integrative development since 2017, actively promoting the transformation and upgrading of publishing. It has been connecting with international publishing and distribution, accumulated new momentum for professional and characteristic development, promoting the integration of production and education, and exploring new formats and models of "publishing + culture + technology". Thus, the Press has built a new development landscape where the double domestic and international cycles are mutually promoted, and it has enhanced its capability of collaborative innovation at home and abroad, and become a pathfinder for the forward-looking development of the publishing industry. By developing from a rudimentary multinational publishing institution to a world-famous cultural corporation, Guangxi Normal University Press has embarked on a new journey of stable, sustainable and high-quality development in the new era!

In the past thirty-five years, under the strong leadership and cordial care of Party committees, governments at all levels and the university, group after group of publishers of Guangxi Normal University have worked hard to build Guangxi Normal University Press from an unknown local university press located in the border to an international cultural institution with good influence and reputation at home and abroad. Now Guangxi Normal University Press Group has already become a fairly large cultural industry group with more than 30 branches and more than 1,200 employees at home and abroad, and its business involves publishing and distribution of books and periodicals, cultural creativity, knowledge services, educational training, tourism and real estate development. It has made due contributions to the development of our country into a great power in education and culture, which deserves our pride.

Thirty-five years ago, the predecessors of Guangxi Normal University founded Guangxi Normal University Press. They have developed the lofty spirit of "having steadfast faith, forging ahead, daring to be the first, seeking truth and being pragmatic, and serving the people", which has opened up a way forward for us and pointed out the way forward. It is the precious spiritual wealth of our publishers of Guangxi Normal University.

In the past thirty-five years, group after group of publishers of Guangxi Normal University have, by carrying forward this lofty spirit, adhering to the ideal and belief of "publishing good books for the people, strengthening nation cohesion and spreading civilization for mankind” and implementing the mission of "holding aloft the banner, gathering people's hearts, educating new generations, developing culture and displaying image”, published many excellent books with profound social value and far-reaching historical significance, contributing to inheriting Chinese excellent culture, prospering socialist spiritual civilization and building our country into a socialist cultural power.

The river of history flows endlessly, and the spirit is passed down from generation to generation. We should continue to carry forward the glorious tradition generation by generation, inherit and carry forward the lofty spirit created by our predecessors, and drive Guangxi Normal University Press to a more brilliant future

——Looking back at the history and looking forward to the future, we must uphold the Party's overall leadership over our publishing work. It is the basic principle for the Party to always take a clear stance in maintaining political integrity in its ideological publicity work. The 35-year development history of Guangxi Normal University Press tells us that adhering to the Party's overall leadership over publishing work is the "root" and "soul" of the sound development of publishing work and an important guarantee for the stable and far-reaching development of state-owned cultural companies.

On the new journey, we must uphold the party's overall leadership over publishing work and strengthen our commitment to the "four awarenesses", the "four matters of confidence” and "two upholds"; we must take a clear stance in maintaining political integrity, build a defense line in the ideological sphere, and achieve "taking duty for defending our territory and managing to do our best to fulfill our duty and to be proactive in our work"; it is necessary to constantly improve the leadership of the Party in state-owned cultural corporations, give full play to the leading core role of the Party organizations in state-owned corporations in grasping the overall situation and coordinating all parties, and continuously promote the deep integration of Party building and the our business, so as to set the rudder for the stable, far-reaching and high-quality development of Guangxi Normal University Press!

To survive and develop in the fierce market competition, we need an advanced governance system and efficient management technology, which is a valuable lesson summed up by Guangxi Normal University Press in its 35-year development process. Facing the unprecedented changes in the world in the past century and the historical intersection of China's "two centennial" goals, opportunities and challenges coexist, and so do difficulties and hopes. In order to seize the opportunity and break the waves in the fierce market competition, Guangxi Normal University Press must rely on the modern corporation governance system and efficient corporation management and always maintain vigorous vitality and strong enterprising spirit. It must be good at "nurturing new opportunities in the crisis and opening new prospects in the changing situation".

The 35-year development history of Guangxi Normal University Press fully proves that our foundation lies in publishing, our development depends on publishing, and publishing is the main business that we must firmly grasp. Every time Guangxi Normal University Press develops and grows, it seizes the historical opportunity of publishing industry, thus completing the historic transformation from a small- to a large-scale, from a specialized to an excellent press. Today, the development of publishing industry has entered a new era, and the digital technologies thrived. New technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data and blockchain have brought new possibilities to the publishing industry, and at the same time, posted severe challenges to the traditional publishing industry. So the transformation and upgrading in the publishing business has become the focus of the industry.

On the new journey, we must adhere to the strategic policy of "focusing on the main business, deepening education, upgrading academics and extending development". Focusing on our core business of publishing, we must continue the intensive cultivation with education and publishing as the main axis, and constantly increased the level of academic humanities and rare literature publishing; actively build a new publishing system with knowledge service as the goal and digital information as the carrier, explore the new format and mode of "publishing + culture + technology", and accelerate the formation of a publishing industry cluster with the main business of publishing as the core, digital culture as the foundation and diverse forms of development going hand in hand; effectively promote the optimization and upgrading of the publishing industry chain and value chain, and write a new chapter for the high-quality development of Guangxi Normal University Press in the new era!

——Looking back at the history and looking forward to the future, we must put the development of qualified personnel in a more prominent position. Qualified personnel are the source of strength for corporate development. In the 35-year development course of Guangxi Normal University Press, it is the continuous participation of a large number of qualified personnel that has made us successful today. In the period full of historical opportunities for the development in the new era, we are more eager for qualified personnel than ever before, and need a strong team of qualified personnel than ever before. Without qualified personnel, our development will stagnate and our cause will suffer losses.

The 35-year development history of Guangxi Normal University Press fully shows that it is the fundamental reason for Guangxi Normal University Press to maintain strong cohesion and centripetal force in the past 35 years to always adhere to the goal of "corporate development and employee well-being", rely on all employees to promote the continuous progress of the corporation and enable all employees to benefit from the achievements of corporate development.

On the new journey, we must take the building of a happy corporation as our goal, adhere to the people-centered development philosophy, and implement the guiding thoughts of "developing the corporation for the employees, by the employees and of the employees"; strive to increase employees' incomes, improve the level of employees' work and living security, and continuously enhance employees' sense of acquisition, happiness and security; further strengthen the development of corporate culture, make efforts to build a united, civilized and harmonious corporate culture, actively create a good atmosphere of "seeing the corporation as home, and depending on everyone for its development", continuously enhance the cohesion and centripetal force of the corporation, and contribute new strength to the high-quality development of Guangxi Normal University Press in the new era!
