The 9th Bing Xin Prose Award

On October 15th, the Chinese Institute of Prose announced the results of the 9th Bingxin Prose Award. The Group’s Records of Rivers and Lakes: China with Rivers won the Prose Collection Award, and Walking on the Earth won the Prose Collection Nomination Award.

Records of Rivers and Lakes: China with Rivers, which won the Prose Collection Award, is a cultural essay on rivers and lakes by TAN Yali, a writer of Hunan Province. By consulting cultural and historical allusions and regional data, taking the search for footprints of rivers and lakes as clues, TAN Yali has recorded the stories about current and past situation of Chinese rivers and lakes from the perspective of water culture through ten years' field investigation. In her book, she has interpreted the reproduction of Chinese civilization, and shown the spectacles of "China with Rivers". The book covers from fishing boats on Dongting Lake in the sunset to the boundless reeds along the lake, and from the bustling scenery along the Yangtze River to the busy scene of Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. The writer devotes herself to the writing of water culture. While depicting the beautiful landscape and coastal scenery of the rivers and lakes in the motherland, she tells the stories between Chinese civilization and the rivers and lakes peacefully and calmly. In addition, illustrated with more than 60 images of beautiful landscape or cultural scenery searched along the coast, this book is also a book of vivid and rich geographic culture.

Walking on the Earth, winning the Prose Collection Nomination Award, is a collection of travel proses. ZHOU Yuxian, the book’s writer, taking "The Call of Mountains and Waters", "Echo on the Road", "Homesickness" and "Time at Four Seasons" as the titles of the four series, respectively, turns her thoughts generated while making sightseeing tours into elegantly written articles with profound implications. Because of her work, ZHOU Yuxian often goes sightseeing all over China, during which he perceives the call of mountains and rivers, listens to the echoes on the road, and writes down his deep affection for the earth.
